Death of Former Special Counsel Keiji Matsumoto

Mori Hamada & Matsumoto reports with great sadness that Mr. Keiji Matsumoto, one of the founders of the firm’s predecessor, Hamada & Matsumoto, and a Special Counsel to the firm until 2006, passed away due to heart failure at 4:15 pm on November 8, 2008. Mr. Matsumoto was 68 years old. The firm deeply mourns the loss of Mr. Matsumoto and expresses its sincere gratitude for all that he accomplished.

In accordance with the wishes of the deceased, a funeral was held for Mr. Matsumoto by his close relatives on November 11. The firm plans to hold a memorial service for Mr. Matsumoto in the near future.

Biography of Mr. Keiji Matsumoto

1965 Admitted to the bar in Japan (member of the Daini-Tokyo Bar Association)
1961 Passed Japanese Bar Examination
1963 Graduated from the University of Tokyo Faculty of Law
1965 Admitted to the Japanese Bar, and entered Mori Ryosaku Law Firm
1968 Became partner at Mori Ryosaku Law Firm
1971 June - Graduated from the Columbia University School of Law (USA), and obtained a Master of Laws degree (LL.M.)
1971 July - Worked as a trainee at Reid & Priest (New York, USA)
1972 July - Became partner at Hamada & Yanagida
1975 Became named partner of Hamada & Matsumoto (founded upon reorganization of Hamada & Yanagida)
2002 Became Special Counsel at Mori Hamada & Matsumoto (upon merger of Hamada & Matsumoto and Mori Sogo Law Offices)
2007 Opened Matsumoto Law Office (after retirement from Mori Hamada & Matsumoto)
