Our Singapore Office

Located in an economic, geographic, information and financial hub of the Southeast and South Asian region, our Singapore office is ideally situated to offer legal services both to clients from the region seeking business opportunities in Japan as well as Japanese companies expanding their businesses in Southeast and South Asia.

While providing seamless support for our clients in cooperation with prominent local law firms, our Singapore office is a doorway to Japan for international clients. We provide on-site Japanese law advice in Singapore as part of an integrated team with 300 lawyers in our Tokyo office.

Our lawyers in Singapore are experienced in transactions in Japan and throughout Asia in a wide variety of areas, including real estate, project finance, capital markets, joint ventures and mergers & acquisitions. In the area of real estate, for example, we provide legal services in connection with the sale and purchase of real property; lease and brokerage transactions; development of office buildings and other commercial facilities; investments in Japanese real estate investment trusts (J-REITs); and land readjustment and urban redevelopment projects.

Our mission in Singapore is to be an indispensable partner of both international clients doing business and engaging in transactions in Japan, as well as Japanese clients in the region. We aim to take advantage of our location in this important crossroads to provide on-site service for our clients throughout the region.

Takeshi Mukawa focuses his practice on real estate and infrastructure investment and financing. He was seconded by the firm to Mitsui & Co., Ltd. where he engaged in infrastructure, energy and other projects in Asian countries. He has experience handling cross-border private equity investments in office buildings, commercial and residential facilities, hotels, and infrastructure assets. He is also known as an expert on climate change and renewable energy practice and regularly advises clients on climate and energy related investments and regulations. He serves as an expert member of the Central Environment Council of the Ministry of the Environment of the Japanese government, he has also been involved in framing a post-Kyoto protocol offsetting scheme called the Bilateral Crediting Mechanism.

Since joining the firm, Takeshi Komatsu has been engaged in many cross-border mergers & acquisitions involving Chinese and other Asian companies. After studying in the US, he was seconded to the Civil Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of Justice, where he worked on amendments to the Japanese Companies Act.

Kenichi Sekiguchi has handled numerous M&A transactions, including acquisitions of listed companies and management buy-outs, as well as providing advice on a wide range of legal matters relating to corporate law and securities-related laws. He has also been actively involved in cross-border matters. He trained at a law firm in India from September 2011 to December 2011, with a focus on mergers & acquisitions and joint ventures that involve Japanese companies.
