The firm's lawyers are very active in bar associations and other professional organizations, acting as instructors in legal training programs and serving as bar association officers and members of bar association committees, such as committees for legal reform, legal education and human rights protection. Mori Hamada & Matsumoto lawyers also donate their time to serving indigent clients as defense attorneys (toban bengoshi) in criminal investigations and proceedings.
Mori Hamada & Matsumoto is making a strong effort in training new lawyers, and many of its lawyers are now teaching as adjunct professors at law schools in Japan.
Mori Hamada & Matsumoto lawyers are often dispatched to ministries and governmental organizations, including the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Financial Services Agency. These lawyers often take an active role in drafting new legislation and national policies.
Many of the firm's lawyers contribute their time to public activities by serving as members of councils, research groups or roundtable conferences of governmental and other public offices, or as officers of public interest corporations.
