Mori Hamada & Matsumoto to open office in Singapore

Mori Hamada & Matsumoto (“MHM” or “the firm”) is pleased to announce that it will open an office in Singapore.

The demand for legal support from Japanese lawyers conveniently located to provide on-site services in the Southeast and Southern Asian regions has risen over the last few years as a result of steady expansion in those regions by Japanese companies, coupled with increasing interest from Asian companies seeking business opportunities in Japan. As another step to meet the challenges of an ever-changing business environment and diversifying legal requirements and to continue to provide the best client services, MHM intends to create a superior business structure in Asia by opening a new office in Singapore, a key gateway to Southeast and Southern Asia.

The firm’s Singapore office will be primarily staffed by Takeshi Mukawa and Takeshi Komatsu, two partners with abundant experience between them in the Finance, General Corporate and Mergers & Acquisitions practice areas. The firm also dispatches several other attorneys for internships and secondments at leading law firms in countries throughout Southeast and Southern Asia in order to strengthen its ties with the legal community in those countries. With the addition of the Singapore office, the firm will enhance its ability to meet its Japanese clients’ diverse legal needs in the Southeast and Southern Asian regions and to provide on-site services to private and governmental entities in those regions for Japan-related legal matters.

MHM aims to open its Singapore office in early 2012 upon completion of necessary procedures with Singaporean governmental agencies. Further announcements will be made when the opening date and other details have been finalized.

Mori Hamada & Matsumoto opened an office in Beijing in 1998 and an office in Shanghai in 2005. In adding an office in Singapore, MHM will draw upon the experience it has gained handling complex legal matters specific to rapidly growing economies as one of the earliest Japanese firms to open offices in China, as well as its years of experience handling a variety of cross-border transactions and projects, and will be even better positioned to provide legal services for businesses throughout Asia.
