Nagoya Office Starts Operations

The Nagoya Office officially started operations in September 2015 as a branch office of Mori Hamada & Matsumoto LPC.

The Nagoya Office assists clients with the full range of services provided by the firm generally, in fields including mergers & acquisitions, corporate practice, antitrust matters, crisis management, finance, tax, intellectual property, litigation and other forms of dispute resolution, as well as assistance that addresses other legal needs of our clients. For multi-jurisdictional matters, including cross-border mergers & acquisitions and matters in other regions of Asia, the Nagoya Office provides clients with cutting-edge legal support and services in close coordination with the firm’s lawyers in Tokyo and other offices located within and outside Japan, including those in Beijing, Shanghai, Singapore, Bangkok and Yangon.

The Nagoya Office is staffed by Yoshihiro Kojima, Mikio Sonoda and Tomoaki Murai, who have extensive experience in handling mergers & acquisitions, corporate legal affairs, matters involving Asia, tax practice and other legal services in a wide range of fields.

Yoshihiro Kojima handles a wide range of general corporate matters, including mergers & acquisitions and reorganizations, corporate law, matters involving Asia, tax and crisis management. In the area of mergers & acquisitions, he has managed not only domestic acquisitions and group reorganizations, but also a number of cross-border acquisitions and joint ventures involving companies located in Europe, North America and Southeast Asia. In the area of corporate law, he has recently been frequently advising clients who are reviewing their internal control systems, such as corporate governance and structures for managing subsidiaries, due to amendments to the Companies Act and other legislative reforms. He has received many awards, including those given by “Asialaw Profiles” and “Tax Directors Handbook.” He has written a number of notable books and theses focusing on corporate matters, mergers & acquisitions and tax.

Mikio Sonoda focuses his practice on mergers & acquisitions, specializing in corporate law, securities law and other related areas. In addition to domestic general corporate matters, corporate acquisitions and reorganizations (mergers & acquisitions), he assists Japanese companies in expanding business overseas and also handles cross-border corporate acquisitions and reorganizations (mergers & acquisitions). Since entering the firm, Tomoaki Murai has handled a wide range of general corporate matters, from everyday legal consultations to litigation and dispute resolutions (matters related to real estate, labor and other claims for damages) and bankruptcy matters (such as representation of petitioners for bankruptcy and trustees in bankruptcy). In recent times, he has been frequently involved in the handling of corporate wrongdoing cases (including as a member of a third party committee and an internal special investigation committee). He has also contributed to many books and industry magazines, focusing on matters related to corporate practice, including corporate crises and wrongdoing cases.
