Daniel Allen, international arbitration specialist, joins Mori Hamada & Matsumoto

Daniel Allen joined Mori Hamada & Matsumoto.

Mr. Allen is an American lawyer and an international arbitration specialist.  After graduating from Stanford Law School in 2010, he spent a year in the legal department of Sojitz Corporation of America.  In 2011, he began his private-practice career at Cravath, Swaine & Moore in New York, where he focused on intellectual property litigation and jury trials in the United States courts.  He relocated to Tokyo in 2014, having joined the international arbitration team at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.  In 2017 and 2018, he was recognized by The Legal 500 as a Next Generation Lawyer for dispute resolution in Tokyo.

He is an experienced advocate, and has played an important role for teams representing clients in a wide variety of international disputes, with a focus on high-stakes international arbitration proceedings. His team experience includes for both investors and States in arbitrations brought against States under international investment treaties. In particular, he was in a team that represented a major Japanese renewable energy company in an Energy Charter Treaty claim against the Kingdom of Spain, brought before the World Bank's International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID).

With the addition to Mr. Allen to our firm, we have strengthened our international disputes team, and look forward to providing the highest level of representation to our clients in international arbitration proceedings and other modes of international dispute resolution.
