Mr. Toru Ishiguro’s passing

It is with great sadness that we announce that Mr. Toru Ishiguro, a senior advisor of our firm, passed away at the age of 65 on May 18, 2020. In accordance with his wishes, his funeral will be held with family members only.

Mr. Ishiguro was highly regarded as a leading practitioner in the field of global capital markets and held a position of leadership in our firm for many years. He was instrumental in our firm’s creation and development and will be deeply missed.

Our sincere condolences to Mr. Ishiguro’s family and his many friends and colleagues in Japan and around the world.
 

Mr. Ishiguro’s biography

He was born in 1954 and graduated from Toho High School in 1973 and the University of Tokyo (LL.B.) in 1978.  He worked at the New York office of Sullivan & Cromwell after earning an LL.M. degree from Columbia Law School.  He became partner of Hamada & Matsumoto (a predecessor of Mori Hamada & Matsumoto) in 1985.  He held senior positions in many organizations, including serving as: committee member of the Japan Investor Relations Association; board member of the Japan Academic Society of Investor Relations; member of the Disclosure System Working Group of the Financial Service Agency; specialist member of the Financial System Council; statutory auditor of TDK Corporation; board member of Daiwa Asset Management Co., Ltd.; board member of Japan Investor Protection Fund; board member of Japan Exchange Regulation; board member of Lawyers for LGBT and Allies Network; and committee member of Japan Association of Corporate Executives.
