Toru Yamada joins Mori Hamada & Matsumoto

Message from Mr. Toru Yamada

I am Toru Yamada, and it is my great pleasure to join Mori Hamada & Matsumoto.

In October 2000 I was appointed as a public prosecutor, and after working at the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office, the Osaka District Public Prosecutors Office, and the Fukuoka District Public Prosecutors Office I retired in March 2015.  During that period of fourteen and a half years I mainly worked as a prosecutor in charge of investigations, investigating matters including not only general criminal cases, but also corporate financial and economic crimes, medical malpractice, and corruption offenses by public officials, etc.  During the period from 2010 to 2012, I was seconded to the Deposit Insurance Corporation of Japan where I was engaged in bankruptcy resolution for financial institutions.

After retiring from my role as a public prosecutor, I joined Nishimura & Asahi and worked on a wide range of crisis management issues, including investigations of cases of corporate misconduct in Japan and overseas, including violations of the Antimonopoly Act, Unfair Competition Prevention Act, and Financial Instruments and Exchange Act, and dealt with regulatory authorities such as the Japan Fair Trade Commission, Securities and Exchange Surveillance Commission, and the Public Prosecutor’s Office, and also handled corporate scandals involving officers and employees.
Going forward I will do my utmost to fully leverage my experiences to date while continuing to improve my knowledge to best serve our clients.  I look forward to working with you all, and hope that you will support me in my endeavors.
