Hidenori Mitsui joins Mori Hamada & Matsumoto

Message from Mr. Mitsui

I hope this message finds you all well, and appreciate this opportunity to introduce myself.

I retired from the Financial Services Agency on July 5 last year, where my final position was Director-General of the Policy and Markets Bureau, Financial Services Agency.  It is a great honor for me to now join Mori Hamada & Matsumoto as a Special Counsel.  Since joining the Ministry of Finance in 1983, I have been engaged in public service relating to fiscal and financial affairs for more than 36 years, and during that period I had the opportunity to undertake a two-year legal apprenticeship starting in 1988 (42nd term).  As for my experience working in the field of finance, after working at the Ministry of Finance’s Banking Bureau and Securities Bureau, I worked at the Financial Services Agency for about 18 years immediately after the inauguration of the Financial Services Agency in 2001, where I was engaged in development of various systems relating to financial and capital markets, and accounting and auditing, including enactment of the Financial Instruments and Exchange Act, introduction of an administrative monetary penalty system, measures concerning systems reflecting on international financial crises, revision of the Banking Act and Payment Services Act, inspection and supervision of financial institutions, and secretariat duties.  If I achieved anything during my performance of those roles, it was only due to the advice and support of lawyers, accountants, and other persons concerned from various companies and financial institutions, and for that I am deeply grateful.  Going forward I hope to contribute to society and assist our clients by drawing on the knowledge I have acquired throughout my career to date.
