This session will address key issues and challenges concerning international trade and financial opportunities with Islamic jurisdictions. Shariah law compliance, regulatory risks, the role of Islamic Financing and of Free Trade Agreements are central topics that will be discussed. The session will analyze Shariah-compliant financing alternatives, Islamic Financial Institutions (IFIs) and regulatory risks. Speakers will examine in detail free trade agreements with Islamic countries. They will consider whether certain key non-Islamic jurisdictions approach Free Trade Agreements with Islamic countries differently than with other non-Islamic countries. The panel will examine whether there are essential elements of difference in these two types of agreements. Finally, they will consider the lessons that lawyers can learn to advise their clients and in doing so, will highlight subjects and topics that non-Islamic countries may find particularly difficult when conducting free trade agreement negotiations with Islamic countries.
