Mitsuhiro Hasegawa to join Mori Hamada and Matsumoto
We are pleased to announce that Mitsuhiro Hasegawa, who retired from the office of Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Surveillance Commission of Japan (“SESC”) in December 2022, will join Mori Hamada & Matsumoto on April 1, 2023 as a special counsel.
Mr. Hasegawa handled investigations and criminal trials of corporate criminal cases as Deputy Director of the Special Investigation Division (Finance and Economy Group) at the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office and Director of the Criminal Division at the Tokyo High Public Prosecutors Office, and led the prosecution of various criminal cases as the Chief Prosecutor of the Nagoya District Public Prosecutors Office and the Superintending Prosecutor of the Hiroshima High Public Prosecutors Office, among other positions.
He also served two terms as Chairman of the SESC over six years, and during that period he led investigations and inspections for criminal and administrative monetary penalty cases in capital markets, including violation of disclosure regulations, insider trading, and market manipulation.
With the addition of Mr. Hasegawa to our firm as a special counsel, we will further strive to provide our clients with even higher levels of legal services in the field of corporate criminal law and crisis management.
