<Outline>
Part 1: Expansion of designated businesses
The Japanese foreign direct investment screening under the Foreign Exchange and Foreign Trade Act ("FEFTA”) requires foreign investors to file prior notifications and go through screening before investments in Japanese companies engaged in certain businesses designated as sensitive to Japanese national security.
In response to the recent designation of "Specially Designated Critical Commodities", which are eligible for receiving support for securing stable supply under the Economic Security Promotion Act, Ministry of Finance and other Ministries including Ministry of Economic, Trade and Industry ("METI”) launched public consultation on the draft amendment to the regulatory notices adding new designated businesses as core business sectors of the FEFTA ("Amendment”) to secure stable supply chains, and the public consultation finished on April 8th.In Part 1, officials from METI will explain the background and details of the Amendment in English.

Part 2: Latest trend of FDI screening
METI and MHM will discuss the latest trend of FDI screening in Japan. The topics will include the challenges the clients are facing these days and METI’s focus in screening when economic security is becoming more and more important, as represented by the Economic Security Promotion Act.
